Goals for 2019

At the beginning of the year, a friend asked what our photography goals or aspirations were for 2019. After reading the responses to gather some inspiration from the others on the Facebook thread, it didn’t take me too long to compose a list. Particularly, when travel and photography are my main goals for 2019.

I don’t make new year’s resolutions, and I never set usually goals for the year. The last time I wrote a comprehensive list of goals was potentially my ROK bucket list. When I lived in Seoul, I reviewed and updated this bucket list because I didn’t want to leave South Korea with that sense of FOMO.

Later, I realised it would probably be a good idea to write this list in a blog post. What a great way to sustain my sense of purpose and motivation! Furthermore, I realised that I could create separate lists for my photography, travel and lifestyle goals which would correspond with the themes and purpose of my blog.

Basically, it’s a great excuse to write a few lists about things that I want to achieve in 2019. Who doesn’t love writing lists?

What are my Goals for 2019?

Photography goals:

  • Continue developing my photography knowledge and confidence, so that settings and situations become more intuitive.
  • Learn how to use photoshop
  • Improve movement photography, panning, stop-motion, intentional blur, etc.
  • Try videography with my new camera
  • Take more portraits/candid shots of family & friends
  • Create some photo galleries on my website

January 2019 Update: After I wrote this I captured some successful intentional blur photography.

Travel goals:

  • Iceland (Update: Visited in February-March 2019)
  • Isle of Skye in Scotland
  • Argentina, South America
  • Canada (Vancouver & Toronto)
  • North and South Islands, New Zealand
  • Galapagos Islands
  • Buenos Ares, Argentina
  • Chefchaouen, Morocco
  • More UK travel

Unfortunately, some of these could potentially be expensive trips. Consequently, I doubt I will be able to afford all of them this year/soon. However, I wanted to keep a record of my (growing) Travel Wishlist.

Lifestyle goals:

  • Write one blog post every month
April 2019 Update: I am a Contributing Author for Coventry Bloggers, so now I also write blog posts for that site too.
  • Develop a greater understanding of SEO and Google analytics.
  • Sell my house, and buy a new house.
  • Learn more about managing my recently diagnosed hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Eat healthier
  • Take more regular exercise

I know some of these are pretty standard, and something most of us are trying to achieve every day. As a result of my hypothyroidism and the environmental stress, linked to a poor work-life balance it was difficult for me to work on these in 2018. Now, I have a greater understanding of why I was struggling and I have started taking regular medication. Hopefully, I can make achieve some of my 2019 goals (Some of them might take a little longer, and that’s ok).

What are your goals for 2019?
