How excited was I to be invited to review Warwick Castle’s new birds of prey show, the Falconer’s quest?
Following the previous Bank Holiday Weekend, I anticipated a fantastic day out capturing some great photos in the glorious sunshine.
Unfortunately, the changeable British weather had other ideas. Our day out at Warwick Castle was only during blustery Storm Hannah, wasn’t it?
I had never been to Warwick Castle during a storm, and I was a tad anxious about the prospect of a day out in strong winds and heavy rain. The Stormy weather meant that the car park was empty, and the grounds were much less crowded than usual. Thankfully, the weather did improve and more visitors arrived later in the day.
My family moved to Warwickshire in the late 1980s. I remember first going to visit the Castle in the early 1990s. It was very different then, I can vaguely recall climbing the worn spiral staircases in the Medieval Towers and walking along the uneven ramparts. Even as a child that lacked my current sense of danger, I remember that this experience felt a bit scary and exciting.
Merlin Entertainments Group (previously the Tussauds Group) have owned the Castle since 1978. They have invested millions, and continue to invest in restoration works to ensure this local historical heritage site is well-preserved so that it maintains its full grandeur and majesty.
When I visit a historical site, I always like to daydream about living at that moment in time. Other heritage sites in the UK are interesting and educational, but they can be a little bit stuffy. You walk around and listen to a guide, but you can’t touch anything. So, not many other heritage sites are as much fun as Warwick Castle!
Warwick Castle is a little bit like being at Disney World, but it’s not a purpose-built fairytale castle. It’s a historical Castle set in the heart of England, which actually originates from 914 AD.
These days, Warwick Castle does have a ‘Princess Tower’ where children (3-8 years) can help the Princess solve an enchanted riddle.
The Great Hall, State Rooms and Chapel are areas which display life-like wax figures and historical artefacts that you can’t touch, but there is a whole lot more to see and do!
Warwick Castle has many different attractions that appeal to families, tourists, historians, photographers, bloggers, pretty much everyone. You can learn about the history of the Castle, experience the stunning views in the 64 acres of Capability Brown landscaped gardens, find yourself terrified in the dungeons, and be entertained by several themed events throughout the day. You can get involved! It’s a dream come true!
We were anxious that Storm Hannah would lead to Warwick Castle cancelling the UK’s newest and largest birds of prey show. How would I write a review about it then?
The Falconer’s Quest happens twice a day, at 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm on the bank of the River Avon. We stayed inside the Castle for the first show due to the weather conditions, but we went to see the later showing at 3.30 pm. Unfortunately, it was still very windy. As a result, I’m afraid that we did not see the Falconer’s Quest.
The Castle gave the audience a shortened display and introduced us to some of the birds of prey. On a more positive note, this does give us an excuse to visit the Castle again…
I searched the skies with determination trying to capture some of these magnificent birds in flight with my new 70-300mm lens.
There was lots of action-packed swooping, and they were super fast. Shame my photography isn’t nearly as skilful. I have a lot of blurry tree branches…
It is always cheaper to buy tickets online, in advance from Warwick Castle. You can save up to 30% on day tickets at present!
Plus, I did not know that the Castle offers a Rainy day guarantee! This is another great perk of ordering tickets online in advance. If it rains for more than one hour during your day out, the Castle guarantees free return day passes for Castle, Grounds and Gardens. How amazing is that? It would definitely have made me feel much less anxious about the changeable British Weather!
We enjoy visiting local attractions, and Warwick Castle is one of the highlights in Warwickshire. Over the years, I have taken friends and family to visit the Castle numerous times but I never realised that it might be a good idea to buy an annual pass. This is definitely something worth considering because there is not much difference in cost, car parking is included, and you receive discounts for special events
Did you know that they have special events and shows throughout the year? This summer there will be a Dragon Slayer event in August, which looks amazing!
Tip: To save some money, you might wish to consider taking a picnic or venturing into the historic town of Warwick to purchase some food.
I think so, we spent over 5 hours there with fewer visitors than usual and we still didn’t see everything (admittedly we do spend ages taking photos).
The disgruntled peacocks may have had their feathers ruffled by the stormy weather, but I can honestly say that we still had a fantastic day out!

It's fun knowing about the backgrounds and history of places generally. Castles have these fantasy feel attached to them (ofcourse thanks to disney). Warwick castle does look serene. The birds are beautiful. Nice pictures by the way.
Seems like a great place to visit in the UK. Wish they had some places like this in the states. I’d be excited to dress up and explore move of the culture there too.

We went to Warwick Castle 2 years ago on a visit to the UK. Great place, loved the bird display!
This is interesting. I thought castles are only for picture taking but there’s a lot more to see plus the cool artifacts, shows, events, and enjoying the spectacular view. I hope to see this someday, aside from Japan. ❤️
Hi Aleeza, I've been to Japan and I visited several castles in Hiroshima, Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto. So, I understand why you would think that. I hope you get to come and visit some castles in the UK, particularly Warwick Castle ❤️
